Yarmouth in the balance

Yarmouth are to stage a precautionary inspection at 7.30am ahead of Tuesday's Flat meeting due to the possibility of further heavy rain.

The going is currently described as heavy, soft in places, but rain varying between four and 15 millimetres is forecast.

Anything near the top end of that figure would put the meeting is some doubt.

"We're fine at the moment, but we have variable forecasts with rain from 4mm up to 15mm," said clerk of the course Richard Aldous.

"If we get between four and seven or so then we'd be absolutely fine. If we get the full amount I'd be worried.

"It's just to keep everybody informed so that I just don't drop a bombshell in the morning."
