Last year's Oaks third Izzi Top began her four-year-old career in the best possible way with a relatively straightforward victory in the Qatar Bloodstock Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket.
Sent off the 3-1 second favourite behind Sir Henry Cecil's Group One winner Timepiece, she was always travelling nicely for William Buick.
Tom Queally was soon sending out distress signals on Timepiece and Izzi Top was not too hard pressed to beat Captivator by a length and a quarter.
Buick said: "It was a good start. She was a bit fresh, but they didn't go quick enough early on so we got no cover, which was not ideal.
"It's a great start to the season, especially with her being fresh, as she still got home. There's lots of improvement to come."
Trainer John Gosden added: "It was a good effort with a 3lb penalty. She's done it well and I'm thrilled with her. She was lucky they went steady early on on that slow old ground. We'll have a look at the Middleton at York next."
