Race Verdict

POWER enjoyed a fine 2-y-o campaign, proving himself one of the best juveniles around last summer, and left behind an abysmal run in the 2000 Guineas when quickening up in fine style to see off a few of these in the Irish equivalent some three weeks later. Connections remain convinced that soft conditions would be against him, but he has plenty of form with cut in the ground from last year and this tough colt ticks plenty of boxes as he bids to enhance Aidan O'Brien's fine record in this race. Foxtrot Romeo produced a personal best when finishing second to Power at the Curragh, although Born To Sea might be feared most by those at Ballydoyle having made considerable late gains into fifth that day. Hermival failed to sparkle at the Curragh but his Newmarket third puts him in the picture, while the well-touted Most Improved is a fascinating runner having endured a luckless passage in the French Derby on his only start so far this season.

Selection: Power        Danger: Born To Sea        Alternative: Most Improved
