Race Verdict

A fiercely competitive sprint to kick things off and DOCTOR PARKES edges the vote. Eric Alston's gelding caught the eye when on a staying-on fifth over slightly further at Chester eight days ago and he is entitled to improve for that first start since early October. There looks to be plenty of pace around him with Judge 'n Jury drawn five and Verinco drawn eight and he arguably produced his best effort yet when teaming up with Jimmy Fortune over C&D some 12 months ago. Magical Macey has continued in the same dazzling form he left off last season, as shown when winning from an outside draw at Beverley 29 days ago, and deserves plenty of respect, while Fitz Flyer, drawn on the far side here, and last year's winner Ancient Cross add further spice to the race.

Selection: Doctor Parkes        Danger: Magical Macey        Alternative: Fitz Flyer
